Ok maybe Terry did something wrong sometime back which was only known recently and maybe he should not have done what he did to a good friend when he had an affair with ex-Chelsea player wayne bridge's ex-girlfriend, vanessa perroncel. Ever since, many brand Terry as a betrayer for what he did to bridge but seriously Terry WAS NOT a third party and definitely DID NOT cause his once good friend's break-up. Bridge broke up with vanessa shortly after he moved to city (could be that one stayed in london while the other was in manchester). Terry, being a good friend as he always is, comforted both bridge and vanessa. He might have started his affair at that time according to many sources which of course was wrong but at least he did not snatch his buddy's girlfriend away as some nasty and cruel people said. All he did was made a mistake that many could not have avoided too.
Im not trying to justify what Terry did BUT people make mistakes and as perfect and noble Terry might seem, he is still one of us. As the saying goes, to err is human. So why is it that we cannot forgive and forget whatever that Terry has done when all of us make mistakes every other day? Why is that when a politician does it (as quoted from a fellow fan on twitter), it is hailed as his private life? Does being a politician enhances his status because of the fact that he once earned merit for contributing to his country? Then in this case, Terry definitely rank among the heroes of England for putting his body on the line for English football. Sadly, thats not what happened. Not only did the media trash-talk him, he was criticised heavily and even stripped off his captaincy. Capello said he would make a decision after hearing Terry's side of the story but fact is he already had one way before meeting Terry. As the chinese saying goes, the higher the hopes, the greater the disappointment. Why give him hope when you have already decided to sack him? I dont know about others but boy do i HATE your guts.
Now that everything seems to be settled, bridge has to do something to trouble the calm waters again. One really wonders if he is attracting attention (you know, no one really cares about him given that there is ashley cole). He announced that he would be ending his england career as he felt that 'his position was untenable'. Its no coincidence that the statement came at a time when ashley cole was ruled out for the rest of the season and probably world cup due to an injury suffered while playing for Chelsea.
You know, not everyone is able to handle the pressure heaped onto your shoulder as well as Lampard. Allow me to digress a little. Frank Lampard was forced to take a penalty 3 times (yes 1, 2, 3 TIMES) against west ham some time ago. Its totally ridiculous and i cannot rule out the possibility that the referee was retarded or that it was a conspiracy to make Chelsea lose. Anyway, as i was saying, it is indeed stressful that the whole country is counting on you to excel in your position so they can celebrate the winning of world cup. Thus its not strange that people would crumble and quit in a situation like this, especially since ashley cole's terrific play raised people's expectations. In any case, its no real loss. There are many other left-backs who are more than able to step up to deputize for A.Cole.
However, the same cannot be said for england's captain. Yes, im doubting ferdinand's ability to lead england out but the point is this: no matter whether Terry remains as captain, this incident can never be erased from the minds of the players. Terry's ability as a leader, similarly, would not disappear just because he is no longer captain. I believe that he can still garner the support among his team-mates simply because regardless of his private life, John Terry is a wonderful defender, a nice friend, a great captain and of course Mr Chelsea through and through. Team Terry forever!
He is also England's Captain which is something remarkable considering that not everyone has the chance to lead England out in numerous international competitions. John Terry is always reliable and responsible which is why he was made captain. His words of encouragement and timely reminders to his team-mates are what managers like Ancelotti and Mourinho ( you see that i left Capello out on purpose) really appreciate. Its this innate quality in him that garners him the respect that he so duly deserved.
Injuries and pain never really exist in his dictionary as he always insist on playing despite carrying injuries. As Chelsea fans would recall a few seasons back, Terry played with a protective mask for his cheekbone and had painkilling injections for his toe throughout the season. He is definitely a worthy leader as he exemplifies the selfless trait in him. Ignoring the possible repercussions his actions could have on his injuries and in turn health, Terry stuck to the decision of playing because he felt he should be there with the team giving them moral and physical support, because he thought it neccessary to assure and repay the fans' constant faith in him, and most importantly because he feels thats what he should do as the Captain of Chelsea Football Club.
Manchester city tried to lure Terry over with their riches last summer and try as they might, Terry would not give in. Wayne Bridge even persuaded him to switch sides but of course seeing that Terry is not a betrayer like Bridge, he rejected them. It only shows how grateful Terry is to Chelsea for nurturing him as a young footballer and putting their trust in him when he was made captain. He isnt the adebayor or tevez that sparkles at the mere mention of money or grumbles like mr grumpy when he doesnt have enough playing time. John Terry is a selfless, wonderful, modest, and fantastic role model for us and there is no doubt that he deserves the Captain's armband.
